Our 60th Anniversary: 1943 - 2003

2003 saw 60 years of Eltham Little Theatre.

A long history from it's birth in 1943, through the hard times when the present Theatre was leased to us only on a monthly basis pending its sale by the landlords.

By the end of the 1970s it seemed as though its fight for survival was doomed...until Bob Hope stepped in and saved the day. The boy who had left Eltham in 1906, but who had never forgotten his roots, was back on the Road to Eltham and through his generosity saved the Theatre from closure. In 1982, Eltham Little Theatre was renamed The Bob Hope Theatre in honour of its benefactor.

In September 2003, we marked the occasion with a number of events to celebrate various aspects of the Theatre. Our talented youth drama group, The New Stagers, showcased their work.  The younger members presented an excellent musical evening. The Storytelling-in-Hope Club presented Robin Williamson in Cabaret and the week finished with a Gala Evening & Cabaret.

We are looking forward to some exciting productions during our forthcoming season. Some of these are featured on our Forthcoming Productions page, but keep an eye open for updated announcements.
